One Room Challenge – Week 5

Hello, everyone!

We here at RAD hope you all are having an awesome week! We cannot believe it’s already week 5 of the One Room Challenge!!! Isn’t that exciting?!

We are thrilled to share a couple of things that are going into our beautiful dining room with you guys, but at the same time we are not going to share too much, because we have to save enough of it for the reveal next week 🙂

First, we’ve promised to show you guys the buffet we picked, so here it is:

8507h-se_c

We chose to go with this gorgeous buffet by Vanguard because we wanted a darker piece to contrast with the lighter walls and fabrics, and because it has modern elements such as the finish on the doors, while having a classic shape. We absolutely love it.

The second thing we want to share with you guys is a sample of the indoor/outdoor rug we picked. We ordered the Couristan Antigua in Dune a couple of weeks ago and it arrives tomorrow, but here is a picture of the sample:

matt rug

We love that it doesn’t look like an indoor/outdoor rug; the quality of the sample is very good. We think it will look great with the fabrics we’ve picked for the room!

Just about every big item but the two above are already in the room, which is a miracle by our ORC standards. I guess because last time we had a much bigger room that needed structural changes, this ORC has been a much less stressful experience. We should get the buffet and the rug in the room by Friday, so we can style the room over the weekend, and then we have our photo shoot on Monday 🙂

So here are some items we are thinking of using when styling the room:

We cannot wait for the photo shoot on Monday, and to be able to share the (beautiful, photographer-quality) pictures with you guys! It will be a somewhat busy weekend with styling, but we can’t wait to have the room finished! Again, thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm over the last few weeks! That’s our favorite thing about the One Room Challenge. To our fellow ORC participants: you can do it!!

See you guys in a week with the reveal!

One Room Challenge – Week 4

Hello, everyone!

It’s week 4!!!!! Time is going by way too fast!

For those of you just catching up, we’re participating in the One Room Challenge, and awesome design event originated by Linda from Calling It Home. We’ve committed to transforming a dining room for our clients in 6 weeks, and to blog about it once a week. It’s a great opportunity to share our work with others, as well as to see the wonderful ideas that other participants come up with! If you wanna check our previous post, you can do so here:

Week 1/ Week 2/ Week 3

Last week we showed you all some different grays on the paneling, and told you guys that we picked one. But before we show you guys what the room looks like now, here’s a reminder of what it used to look like:

20140804_111209

And now, here’s what you all have been waiting for! The winner is…

Benjamin Moore Gray Owl!!!!!!

And the trim is Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray!

And we’re so happy we decided to take the leap and paint the paneling, because this is what the room looks like now:

We are so ridiculously happy about how the room looks now! Painting has definitely brightened up the room, and it makes the room look the perfect mix of traditional and modern. As you guys can see from the pictures, our lovely Mitchell Gold table has arrived!! We love it! It is perfect for the space! The chandelier is not in yet, so this is still the old one. But with the paint done and the table in, we can finally start seeing our design come to life, and we really couldn’t be happier.

Also, the chairs are back! And though we feel very bad for going back on our word, we’ve decided to keep you guys in suspense for a couple more weeks until the reveal. Sorry, they’re awesome, but we feel we’re giving away too much! But as a compromise, we’ll share with you some images that hint at them. So here are some chairs that resemble ours:

KK2

The chairs are probably the most modern element in the room, and we just love them so much!

And because we feel kinda bad about not sharing our beautiful chairs, we’ve decided to share with you all the beautiful Arteriors sconces we got 🙂

49006t

We got two of these to place on either side of the window. The back plate is a beautiful bronze that ties well with the chandelier, and also stands out against the gray of the walls. We can’t wait to get them installed!!

Well, that’s all we have for you today! We can’t believe that there’s only 2 weeks left until the reveal… It’s so exciting and nerve-wrecking at the same time! Thank you so much for all your support through this journey! Make sure to check out how the featured participants and the other guest participants are doing with their projects!

A Taste of Project Design 2015 (Get the Look!)

Hello, everyone!

We’ve been crazy busy with the One Room Challenge, but we really want to share some pictures of “A Taste of Project Design Gala 2015,” a design event hosted by the wonderful people at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island; guests included Nate Berkus and Candice Olson. They do an amazing job at raising money to fund treatment for children with cancer. We created a 10′ by 10′ space for this event, and even though it was a crazy couple of days putting this space together, we have never had so much fun for a good cause 🙂

Here is our space!

We’d like to thank Alan Barry for the amazing pictures! And here are a couple of shots of the process:

And here is how you can get the look from our vignette!

Also, the paint color is Benjamin Moore AF 655 Silhouette, and the moldings are high gloss, while the walls are eggshell.

This was a super fun, super fast project! We are glad we could be part of an event that raised money for such an important cause 🙂 If you want to check out some of the other vignettes, you can do so at RMHLI’s Facebook page.

Also, make sure to check our latest ORC post!

One Room Challenge – Week 3

Hello, everyone!

We here at RAD hope you’re having an amazing week! We can’t believe it’s already week 3 of the One Room Challenge!!! We have exciting things to share this week!

ORC Guest Blue

First, after considering over 50 shades of gray (sorry, bad joke), we have reached a decision! Seriously, we looked through so many different grays.

20141112_110947

That’s what much of the room looked like over the last few days. We have finally reached a decision, but we are going to keep you guys in suspense until next week when we can share some pictures of the painted room with you guys!

We also have chosen fabrics and a light fixture from Arteriors that look amazing with the table we showed you guys last week!

Matt & Tiffany Deisgn (1) (1) (1)

We are absolutely thrilled with this chandelier! It is just gorgeous, and it will look amazing in this room!! We are also happy with the fabrics we’ve picked! We decided to go with some gold tones that will look wonderful with the brass chandelier, and that are a bit warmer to balance out the gray walls. We cannot wait to see it all come together!! The wood sample included with the fabrics is a wood sample of the buffet we got. It should arrive in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll share a picture when it does.

We did have one other item on the design scheme: the West Elm chairs in the original upholstery. Sadly, the reupholstered chairs did not make it back in time for this post, and we did not want to spoil the surprise. We will definitely have them back in time for next week’s post though, so stay tuned!

We cannot believe there’s only three weeks left until the reveal! The past two weeks have been all about making design choices and ordering things, so we are super excited to have the panels painted in the upcoming week, so we can start really seeing our vision for this room take shape!!

Thank you all so much for following our progress over these past weeks. We really love reading your comments and knowing what you guys think! Make sure to check out the featured participants and the other guest participants for some great design ideas 🙂

One Room Challenge – Week 2

Happy Thursday, everyone!

ORC Guest Blue

We hope you’re all having an amazing week! This past week we were crazy busy getting our booth ready for the Taste of Project Design Gala 2015, hosted by the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, which was absolutely amazing!

Still, it didn’t leave us as much time for One Room Challenge stuff as we hoped, but we were able to get our proposed floor plan together, and we are so excited about it!

Floor

We decided to go with a round table because we think it will contrast nicely with the paneled walls and will make the room feel more modern, like in the inspiration image below.

c36f3034db9c2ca22ba187e0c9887c2a

We’re hoping we can find the right balance between traditional and modern to make this room work. We are now shopping for furniture that matches our plans. We have decided to go with this beautiful dining table from Mitchell Gold; it is stunning and will work amazingly well with our vision for the room!

10897-DNT_HERO

We absolutely love it! Also, our clients already have some wonderful chairs that we are getting reupholstered; we think they will be ready in time for next week’s post 🙂

We hope to have a light fixture picked by next week as well, so hopefully we can share that with you guys then. Another thing we need to pick over the next couple of weeks is a rug, but that is turning out to be a bit more complicated than expected. Our clients have a dog and a cat, and so we need something that looks amazing while being pretty resistant. We are thinking an indoor/outdoor rug is probably a good idea, but we haven’t found one that we like yet.

It is a joy to be participating in the ORC again! It adds some pressure to a project, but it gives us so much motivation! Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment last week. Your enthusiasm is contagious 🙂 Also, both the invited participants as well as guest participants have great projects going on, and we can’t wait to see how they are doing! Make sure to check out their work as well!

One Room Challenge: Week 1

Happy Thursday, everyone!

We are super excited to announce that we here at RAD will be a linking participant in the One Room Challenge again!!! We had a blast when we participated in the Spring, and we can’t wait to see what we can do in the next few weeks 🙂

ORC Guest Blue

For those of you who have not heard of the One Room Challenge, it is an amazing interior design event created by Linda @ Calling It Home, where designers and DIYers commit to transform a room in 6 weeks, and post about it once a week. Twenty featured designers post on Wednesdays, and linking participants post on Thursdays. So every Thursday over the next five weeks we will be sharing our progress with you. There’s a lot of pressure involved, but despite all the craziness that comes with transforming a room in weeks, we truly loved all the support and encouragement we received last time, as well as the opportunity to see what other wonderful designers were working on. By the way, if you want to check out our Spring ORC results, you can do so here.

For our second One Room Challenge, we have decided to work on this dark-paneled dining room.

20140725_133210

20140804_111209

20140804_111154

Project: To transform this dark, old-fashioned dining room into a light and modern dining room.

Clients: Wonderful young couple with a baby. We have worked with them in other areas of their home, and we’re glad they’re letting us do their dining room for the ORC.

Biggest challenge: The paneling! We actually think it gives the room texture, and so we want to keep it. Hopefully that works out well!

Here are some inspiration images that we’re working with:

We want to mix the classic feel of the paneling (in a much lighter tone) with more modern furniture and lighting. We are looking for furniture that matches our vision; hopefully by next week we will have decided on most of it.

Again, we are so ridiculously excited about this project, and we can’t wait to see what our fellow participants are doing! Make sure to go and check them out as well!

Trends We Love: Brass

Hello, everyone!

Hope you are all having a wonderful week! Today we want to share with you one of our favorite trends in interior design right now: brass. We are crazy about it! And we’re very happy that this trend doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. The first example of brass we want to showcase is in fact our meeting area here at Rajni Alex Design. We moved into this office almost two years ago, and we are still in love with this amazing table from Organic Modernism and these vintage chairs we had reupholstered.

We are so lucky to work in such a beautiful space 🙂

Brass furniture is a wonderful trend; it just makes any space so much classier. There some great pieces out there, so here are a few of our favorite brass accents out there!

  1. Marble-Topped Pedestal Coffee Table from West Elm

2. Laurent Console Table from Mitchell Gold

3. Elke Glass Coffee Table from Crate&Barrell

Seriously, these are just gorgeous. One of the great things about brass is that it is so versatile. It works well with many different prints and textures, and so you can have fun with it 🙂

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Block Island Before and After

Hey, everyone!

We hope you’ve had a good week so far! Fall has just started, but we’re still holding on to Summer, and so we’re taking this chance to share the before and after pictures of this beautiful beach house in Block Island, RI!

IMG_0187+188

We had an amazing time working on the living room, dining room, foyer, and a bathroom in this beautiful house, and we hope you guys enjoy the results!

The next few photos are of the space that used to be a closed off terrace. We opened this space up to the living room to maximize the living space and so that the amazing views could be seen from the main living area.

The dining area is also open to the living room. We chose very beachy, neutral colors so as not to distract from the view.
