One Room Challenge – Week 6: The Reveal!!!

Hey, everyone!

We here at RAD are sooooooo excited!!! It’s week 6 of the One Room Challenge, which means we get to share everything about our dining room with you guys! We’ve had an amazing 5 weeks, but it was just so hard to save enough surprises for the reveal. We’re ecstatic that the wait is over, and we have a finished room to share with you guys. But first, let’s recap. This paneled dining room looked a bit glum when we first started, as you can see in the pictures below:

It was very dark, so the first thing we decided on was to paint the paneling a light gray in order to brighten up the room.  We then decided to go with some more modern furniture that mixes well with the more traditional style of the paneling. Here is the floor plan we created for the room:

If you haven’t followed us along this journey and you want a more detailed recap, you can reach our previous posts through the links below:

So here is the final product! We are absolutely thrilled about how this room turned out!!

This is our favorite shot of the room! We absolutely love how in this picture you can see the brass in the chandelier, sconces, and the bottom of the table. The paneling looks great, and we’re happy we chose a more gold palette for the fabrics, because it adds some warmth to the room.

Also, you guys get to finally see the chairs! These are West Elm chairs that our clients already had, and we had them reupholstered from a dark gray to gold so they match our vision for the space. And in this picture you guys can also see the rug. We think it looks amazing, especially since it’s an indoor/outdoor rug.

And here is the buffet area 🙂©Jane Beiles-9981

We had chosen a different piece of art by West Elm to go above the buffet, but when we were styling the room we did not think it looked that great, so we were very happy to see this piece of art in our clients’ hallway. It looks wonderful with the gray paneling! The actual buffet is probably the darkest piece in the room, but we think it adds some beautiful contrast. If we had gone for something lighter, we feel it would have blended into the space a bit too much. We also love the brass hardware on it!

We love that in the above shot you get a really good look at the paneling, including the trim. Also, we love how the chair fabric, as well as the brass back of the sconce, really pop against the gray tones. The curtains are also a wonderful blend of gray, with the trim, and gold in the pattern.

This detail shot of the trim really shows the beautiful woodwork we were lucky to work with. We chose to go with a darker gray in high gloss for the trim so that it stands out against the paneling, and we’re very happy with the results!

We love these detail shots of some of our accessories! For those of you who read our Week 5 post, not every single item on our accessories mood board made it to the photo shoot. When we started styling the room, we realized a few of them just did not fit into the room, and so we left them out.

This is our second ORC project, and the whole process was so different! Last time we had to knock down walls and change everything about the rooms we were working with. This time we were just so incredibly lucky that we got a room with the most amazing bones! The paneling was the perfect starting point for this room, and we are so happy we got to keep it. And even though we had an amazing time last year breaking down walls and recreating the space from the start, being able to keep the walls and paneling made our timeline much less stressful this time around 🙂 We’re very happy that we got to focus on the decor for this project, and every single thing that went into this room was something that we feel belongs there.

Here is a mood board with every piece in the room (apart from the accessories), and where you can find them:

We love this opportunity to follow each other’s work as it progresses, and we’re really glad we decided to participate again. So make sure to check the amazing rooms by both the Wednesday participants as well as the guest participants! 1. Ok…MIND BLOWN! This is honestly one of loveliest rooms I have ever seen and it’s making me so inspired on so many different levels. I’m obsessed with the grey on the panelling- seeing the tone on tone walls and trim has totally changed my mind on the direction for a project I’m working on. And wowzers on the gold WE chairs- I would never have believed those weren’t some amazing vintage finds. And the curtain rod in black with the gold rings- brilliant! I was totally going back and forth on finish for mine and now I’m doing that- combined! So so good. Amazing job- I truly love love this room so much!!!!
